Episode 37 - Clash of the Black Hero Archetypes - Warnock vs Walker

from The Mark Peterson Show · host Mark A Peterson

Welcome to Episode 37. In this podcast, I explore Black Hero Archetypes, the Preacher and the Athlete. Rev. Warnock is the incumbent Senator for the state of Georgia. He literally sits in the shadow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., while serving as the pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (Dr. King's family church). Herschel Junior Walker is the Republican Candidate seeking to replace Rev. Warnock in the Senate. Walker was unstoppable as a Heisman-winning running back at the University of Georgia. Walker's on-the-field performance made him a national hero during a time when ESPN did not exist. These are the two archetypes that the world expects Black leaders to embrace, being a preacher or unbeatable athletes. I have known individuals who declared themselves ministers to position themselves for political careers better.
