Episode 389: 'The Good Things Devils Do' (2020)
from Adventures in Movies! Hosted by Blake Heath/Nathaniel Muir
We have had Shudder from the very beginning. The horror streaming channel has been good to us, giving plenty of material over the years. But it was a no-brainer to cancel it earlier this year when an amazing deal came out. Come to find out, we may have been suckered. Both of us are a little too old to have caught on to the R.L. Stine fad when we were in school. Naturally, we had heard of him, and we both watched Are You Afraid of the Dark, but the books were just not a thing in our lives. Which is why we were pleased to hear about this partnership with Tubi. It seems like a while back movies made a concerted effort to be as convoluted as possible. (This is Quentin Tarantino’s fault.) Even films with the most simple ideas stuff as much as possible into them. Case in point, The Good Things Devils Do. This should be a straightforward home invasion, or vampire, or cursed relic movie. Instead, it does it all. It also never gets the tone right, going from ridiculous jokes, to stomach turning comments from scene to scene. Add in a story that is almost impossible to follow and you have a mess. Adventures in Movies! is hosted by Nathaniel and Blake. You can find Nathaniel on Instagram at nathaninpoortaste. What this episode covers
It seems like the movies with the best titles have nothing else going for them. This week’s movie is a perfect example of an awesome name tied to a crappy movie. But it is not just bad. It is nonsensical, off-putting, mean-spirited, and just plain weird.
