Episode 39 | From Being a Psychiatric Patient to Psychiatric Staff with Samantha Comaty

from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon

In today’s episode of Psych Talk I interview Samantha Comaty, a college undergrad studying psychology who hopes to go on to pursue her doctorate in psychology. During our discussion, Sam shares her story with mental health struggles, including her experience of being a patient in a psychiatric hospital. We then go on to discuss her growth from being a patient in a psychiatric hospital to becoming a staff member in a psychiatric hospital. We discuss the stigma surrounding mental health and the misconception that if you have a mental health diagnosis you are unable to work in the mental health field and, in contrast, how going through your own struggles can set you up for success working in the field.
