Episode 4: 004 // Interview with The Zookeeper: Painting silos and doing your best

from Art + Business + Murals · host Sarah Sculley

Today I am speaking with a good friend and muralist, Joel Fergie - also known as The Zookeeper (or Aerosol Joel). Joel Fergie is a Brisbane based artist who’s large scale artworks span from inner city urban laneways to remote regional communities throughout Central Australia. His large scale murals found on water towers and grain silos aim to disassemble the routines of daily life. Through nature, his work looks to bring feelings of positivity to people in public spaces. Exploring visual metaphor, The Zookeeper’s large public works connect a wide variety of viewers to many social and cultural subjects which are often overshadowed in traditional art forms. In this interview we talk about artists residencies, painting huge silos and water towers, making a difference in rural communities, mental health and his fear of heights. Some of the projects we mentioned in the interview:Thallon Silos // https://www.instagram.com/p/B20z5FygluD/Sculptural Work // https://www.instagram.com/p/Ctvo9c4ADPj/Micro Galleries Residency in Nepal // https://www.sculleydesign.com/single-post/2019/02/05/micro-galleries-nepal-2018If you’d like to check out Joel’s work, or get in touch with him you can find him on:You Tube //  https://www.youtube.com/@thezookeepersart/featuredInstagram // https://www.instagram.com/_thezookeeperFacebook // https://www.facebook.com/keepitzooWebsite // https://joelfergie.com———Thank you so much for tuning into the Art + Business + Murals PodcastIf you’d like to say ‘hi’ to me, or if you have any podcast topic ideas or artists you’d like me to interview, please email: [email protected] follow along:Instagram // https://www.instagram.com/sculleydesign/Facebook // https://www.facebook.com/sculleydesignYou Tube // https://www.youtube.com/@SarahSculley/videosWebsite // https://www.sculleydesign.comFeel free to give this podcast a star rating and ‘follow’ so you are notified when new episodes come out each Monday.
