In Episode 4 of Columbia, Thomas reaches Dayton, a small town in southeast Washington where the local hospital’s future is on the agenda. A corporate health network called Northline has arrived with a PowerPoint, a contract, and a familiar script about “evolution” and “access.”Over one winter evening, we sit in the lobby with nurses, EMTs, and housekeepers as they face the possibility of losing their night-shift doctor and staff. A community forum turns into something harder and more honest: a reckoning with what “virtual care” really means when the roads ice over and the ambulance is 50 minutes out.This episode stays small in scale: one town, one hospital, one night.
