In this week's episode in this ongoing podcast exploring the case against the West Memphis 3 killers, Gary Meece reviews press coverage of the case and determines that the so-called Satanic Panic involved in the case stemmed from the confession of Jessie Misskelley and Damien Echols proudly proclaiming his occult beliefs. Prior to the arrests, while there were rumors and local talk of occultism tied to the killings, there was no such media presence. Some press coverage during the trial revealed that jurors and spectators thought the occult angle was unconvincing.
