Episode 40: The Princess of Paleontology

from The Ladies of Strange · host The Ladies of Strange

Hello, Lovelies! Ever heard of Mary Anning? Well, neither have we until Ashley introduced us to this incredible woman. Mary lived in Lyme Regis in Dorset England and enjoyed fossicking (also known as fossiling) on the cliffs near the seaside. One day, Mary and her brother found a skull after a storm had come through the area. After thinking about it, they realized if there was a skull there should also be the rest of the skeleton. Join us as we not only discuss the many discoveries that Mary found (such as the ichthyosaur, a plesiosaur, and others) but the patriarchy surrounding the field of paleontology in the late 1800s that she had to deal with. Suffice it to say, this episode rocks. (ba dum tss) This week's drink break is brought to ya'll by the awesome Deadtime Stories Podcast!
