Episode 40 - Threads (Nuclear Apocalypse) Movie Special
from Cutting through the Bull in the Post-Truth Apocalypse · host Cutting through the Bull
A lapsed quasi-satanist, a self-proclaimed science buff (with only a GCSE grade B in Physics) and a drug-addled lunatic attempt to navigate the irradiated wastelands and dung-hills of ignorance that is the Post-Truth Apocalypse. A smorgasbord of colourful language, drunken ramblings and the occasional "fact". Fact. Hosted by Ben, Gaz and Mike. This week the lads discuss the post-nuclear apocalyptic scientifically accurate docu-drama Threads, which depicts the effects of a nuclear strike on Britain in the northern city of Sheffield. First shown in 1984 to a stunned British audience during the heights of Cold War tension and paranoia, the guys run through the chronological events in the movie, the Geo-political climate at the time, the MAD policy, the steps that need to be taken to launch a nuke, the close calls throughout history, and the lads look back at the horrific events of Hiroshima in 1945 that spawned the Atomic Age. Also, a poltergeist in Hull that is pushing people down flights of stairs, did Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins share intimacy with a shape-shifter?, and Ben goes 'Full Alex' when he submits a Freedom of Information Request on his home town's nuclear contingency plan for its citizens.
