Episode #42: A healing connection...with Dr. Drew Remignanti & Dr. Bill Lynes
...is the Doctor-Patient relationship!Dr. Drew Remignanti, retired emergency physician, says, "I knew even though I was going to retire...I wasn't going to stop thinking about healthcare issues, especially because I could not retire from my patient condition!"Dr. Bill Lynes shares, "I am a physician, a urologist. I am a survivor of mental health issues and suicide attempts. I am also an author...I'm a husband, a father, a Christian..." "Opening up, especially to my fellow physicians, was extremely revealing for me. It allowed me to realize that I was (still) a physician, and to really be back in the physician community. Something about 'coming out'...as a suicide attempt survivor, was really helpful, therapeutic for me."In speaking to the doctor-patient relationship, Drew paints this scene: "Can you imagine if they had said during any one of our trainings, 'Ok, we're going to take a pause here today. Now the business people are going to come in and tell you how important it is for you to spend very little time with your patients. You need to spend the least amount of time possible with your patients in order to generate a bill, and then get out of the room and go on to the next patient!'"Bill and Drew have extensive experience on "both sides of the table," as doctors, and as patients with significant medical issues. They share their stories honestly and vulnerably, to support their colleagues, raise awareness, and encourage doctors AND patients to speak up and take action to preserve the sacred doctor-patient relationship!Thank you for sharing your stories and for being my guests, Drew and Bill; we never know when someone needs to hear exactly what you have to say!
