Episode 42: Advances in Early Prostate Cancer Detection and Risk Assessment

from UroNurse · host UroNurse

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that play a role in cell-to-cell communication. They are secreted by a variety of cells, including prostate cancer cells. In the case of prostate cancer, exosomes have been shown to play a role in disease progression and metastasis. They can transfer signaling molecules, such as proteins and RNA, from one cell to another, promoting tumor growth and invasion. Exosomes derived from prostate cancer cells have also been studied as potential biomarkers for the disease. By analyzing the contents of these exosomes, researchers hope to develop non-invasive diagnostic tests and monitor disease progression. Jason Alter, PhD will review the latest advances in exosome applications designed to assist clinical personnel and their patients as they make shared risk-assessment decisions for prostate biopsy. Clinical information for men in the PSA gray zone (2-10ng/ml) is limited and providers need better, more personalized risk assessment tools. The ExoDx prostate test measures gene expression to enable a personalized more informative approach to risk management. *The information provided on the site is for educational purposes only, and does not substitute for professional medical advice.
