Knowing your value can save you so much trouble in the long run. When you know your value, when you know what you bring to the table and what skills you have refined to be their very best, you can’t believe the naysayers. It’s impossible. And in a predominantly white institution, knowing who you are can be your greatest superpower. T. Tara Turk-Haynes is a writer, producer, and equity strategist whose work spans stage, screen, page, and the workplace. Her plays have been developed and produced by institutions including Rogue Machine, Company of Angels, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and the Kennedy Center. Her screenwriting has earned the Best Screenplay award from African American Women in Cinema, and her fiction has appeared in publications including Obsidian: Call & Response, African Voices, and the anthology X:24.A graduate of Lang College and Sarah Lawrence College, she has been recognized with fellowships from New York Theatre Workshop, the Not A Moment But A Movement Fellowship (CTG, Fire This Time Theatre, and Watts Theatre), and the Producers Guild Diversity Workshop, among others. She is a founding member of The Temblors, a 2021 Geffen Playhouse Writers' Room member, and currently a member of The Kilroys 3.0. As Founder of Equity Activations, t.tara partners with organizations to embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into talent acquisition, leadership development, and organizational culture. A recognized thought leader, she has been honored by the Los Angeles Business Journal and featured on platforms including Culture Amp, Living Corporate, and RecFest. Her insights have appeared in publications including Lars Schmidt's Redefining HR. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about knowing your value and making something out of nothing.
