Episode #43: Game Based Learning in the Classroom: A Conversation with Matthew Farber ED.D, University of Northern Colorado

from 20 Sided Gamified Podcast

Friends- today on the pod, Kelly and I chat with the amazing Matthew Farber of UNC. This guy is way too accomplished for me to just blather about, so I pulled his bio right from his website (it's below this blurb). This was a fun, intense, deep conversation about games, education, and how they manifest in the classroom. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!Matthew Farber, Ed.D. is an Associate Professor of educational technology at the University of Northern Colorado and the founder of the Gaming SEL Lab. His research is at the intersection of game-based learning (GBL) and social and emotional learning (SEL). He studies how playing and making games can cultivate empathy, perspective-taking, and ethical decision-making. He also works in youth initiatives around game design as a form of self-expression.Dr. Farber has been invited to the White House, to keynote for UNESCO, and he has been interviewed about games and learning by NPR, The Washington Post, Fox News Radio, APA Monitor on Psychology, EdSurge, The Denver Post, The74, Fast Company, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. He is an advisor to Peekapak, Quandary (MIT’s Learning Games Network), Evolved Play, and Slam Out Loud, and has advised Noggin (Nick, Jr.). He is also a frequent UNESCO MGIEP, iThrive Games Foundation, and Games for Change collaborator, an Edutopia contributor, a Certified BrainPOP Educator, a Classcraft Ambassador, and a member of the iCivics Educator Network.20 Sided Gamified Listeners- if you’re a fan of this show and want access to 12 exclusive episodes that drop on the 30th of each month- shows that are orchestrated and designed by you, join the game at patreon.com/20SidedGamifiedPodcastLLC  See you there, and don’t forget your dice!https://patreon.com/20SidedGamifiedPodcastLLCAnd, don't forget about our sponsor, BetterHelp!
