Episode 46 - Layer Cake *Listener's Choice*

Daniel Craig is an unnamed cocaine dealer looking to get out of the business at the beginning of "Layer Cake", an intricate British crime drama directed by Matthew Vaughn.  In true film noir fashion, he gets pulled back into the underworld by an intimidating boss who convinces him (in no uncertain terms) that he is to find a missing girl and return her to her mob family.  This sets off a chain of sometimes brutal events as Craig and his gang also get involved in moving a million Ecstasy pills on the black market.  Blood is spilled, beautiful babes are nearly banged and Craig turns in a performance that surely was instrumental in getting him the coveted role of one James Bond two years later.  "Layer Cake" may be hard to follow, and since it's based on a novel it is probably more talky than we'd like, but it's full of the elements we like to see in films of its ilk.  It has style to spare, and that's not something to snort at.
