Episode 47: FACING ADVERSITY CALLS US TO FACE OUR HUMANITY

from The Survivor's Guide to Life · host Peter M. Bernstein, Phd

Facing adversity - even for highly successful and accomplished caregivers and others - ultimately means having to face our limitations. Adversity, such as caring for a loved one, places caregivers in a situation where they do not have control and will reach the end of their abilities. To develop resilience, to respond to challenges with creativity, requires attitudes of acceptance, hope, a willingness to learn, and gratitude for the precious moments of life. It also requires the development of skills to recognize and release the buildup of stress and negative emotions. Some of these emotions can be redirected and harnessed to provide positive energy for change and growth.
