That term is NPC—non-player character. Originally, it described a figure inside a game: a character who appears in the environment, but is not controlled by the player. But now that term is increasingly being applied to actual people. Some describe certain people as backdrop figures. Filler beings. Scripted characters. Even, in some cases, as people who may not possess souls in the same way others do. And that raises a question worth asking. Because if we are one… can anyone truly be background? Can any soul be merely scenery in someone else’s story? Or are we participating in something far more layered, reciprocal, and sacred—each of us playing many roles in the great unfolding of consciousness?
