Episode 47 “Reading and Writing” ft. Joseph Fasano

from The Better Mental Health Show · host Christopher Fasano, Ph.D.

Reading and writing was once considered not just a necessity of life, but also a way for humans to communicate effectively, engage their minds, and expand their knowledge. With the advent of technology and the rise of tv and tablets, some wonder if the creative arts including reading and writing are gone forever. While I definitely agree that reading a book is not as popular with the youth and even adults for that matter, our primitive brains do prefer a good old fashioned story to engage with, and if more kids engage with the arts in some fashion, it might make them feel more connected and engaged with society as a whole. To discus this fascinating topic I welcome poet and author Joseph Fasano to the show talk about his experience with teaching kids about the arts, his experience as a writer, and what his take is on if the art of reading and writing is lost and gone forever.
