Episode 48 - Is SKC playing a new base formation? What are these shape changes intended for, and do base formations really matter? Very Excite for the home opener against LA.
from Home and Away - A Sporting KC Podcast · host Drew VanderPloeg and Cody Welton
This week Drew and Cody dissect the 0-0 draw at Colorado. While a good result at a place SKC(and MLS in general) has limited success, there were some concerning trends showing in the midfield and much of it seemed to be due to the new shape the team is running. Is this a philosophical shift or just a strategic one based on available personnel and the opponent? Do base formations really mean anything? SKC ostensibly was in a 4-3-3 this weekend although it rarely looked like it. We spend Tactical Corner this week talking about the phases of play and how they can create drastically different positional shapes and discussing what they are for and how they tend to morph as game states change. Patience is the name of the game as we wait for this squad to get to some significant level of health. Many players yet to make significant impacts this year and that could have something to do with why the new system tweaks have not come off as successfully as we'd like. Finally, a quick preview of this weekend's Home opener against LA Galaxy. Hopefully their back line looks as lost as it did agains Dallas. Music by The Spin Wires
