Episode 48 - The Human Moment in Photography

from Photography Breakthrough System · host Matthew Jordan Smith

The Human Moment in Photography Speaker: Welcome back. Today's reminder is simple. The human moment, that's your competitive advantage, not your newest lens Not your preset pack Speaker: Not the camera bag you bought because someone on YouTube said it would change your life. And now it mostly holds granola bar wrappers And twelve mysterious cables. Your advantage is the human moment Speaker: It's the mother who says, "I hate being photographed," and then cries when she sees herself looking loved instead of judged Speaker: It's the dad who pretends he doesn't care about family photos, but then he uses one of your pictures as his phone wallpaper forever Speaker: It's the bride squeezing her grandmother's hand Speaker: It's the entrepreneur who finally looks at their branding photos and says, "Oh I actually look like someone people can trust Speaker: You see, AI may make gorgeous images But AI does not know that this child just lost her first tooth Speaker: AI doesn't know that this woman, she's been hiding from the camera for 10 years Speaker: AI does not know those wedding vows are being spoken in front of the people who shared their entire life Speaker: And yes, AI does not know the emotional weight of a real room. You do, and that matters Speaker: But here's where photographers accidentally shrink their own power They describe their work in a clinical manner. One-hour photo session, thirty edited images, online gallery That sounds like a dentist invoice for better lighting Speaker: Instead, talk about what the photographs mean to people Speaker: These photos preserve the tenderness or the chaos and love of this season before it changes again Speaker: or maybe this. "These wedding photographs are for the moments you felt but may not have fully seen." That language builds trust And because this episode is about legacy, Speaker: I want to mention the Aretha Cool book offering, the limited edition. There are about 30 books left. Each one is signed Speaker: There are also a few standard editions as well, and they're all only available at ArethaCool.com. They are a beautiful reminder that photographs are not just content. They become keepsakes, proof, memory, story, and yes, legacy Speaker: You see, that is the energy I want you to bring to your own photography business So what's your action step for this week? Rewrite one offer Speaker: So it names the human moment, . Not just the deliverables. Not just family photos Speaker: Say something like, "These photographs are here to help your children see how deeply they are loved, not just now, but in the future." Speaker: And not just branding photos. I mean, what is that? Say instead, images that help people trust you before they ever meet you Speaker: See how different that feels? Speaker: If you enjoyed this podcast, do me a favor and please leave a five-star review and share it with a photographer who also may need to hear this Speaker: Remember this, your work matters because people matter And you know how to see them Until next week. Bye for now
