Episode 499 "Bright Ideas for Your Business": Artist Jonathon Romain: From Prison to Professional Artist to Entrepreneur

In this episode, I interview Jonathon Romain from Art Inc., a Peoria Illinois non-profit organization that offers free STEAM classes to area school children. The group teaches creative arts both in schools as well as in their facility, which is located within a former Peoria Public School that was purchased by Art Inc. in 2019. Jonathon shared the story of his youth when he was in and out of jail on the west side of Chicago, how he eventually ended up serving a sentence in prison where he had the time to really develop his drawing skills. Upon his release 7 years later, he continued with his passion for art by opening a small gallery and through hard work and tenacity, learned how to become a business owner in addition to being an artist. Now, he not only teaches the creative part of being an artist to his students but also teaches adult artists how to think of their passion as a business that includes marketing their work and themselves as an artist.
