Episode #5 Ch. 17-22
from LIT Listening 2020-21 Hosted by Patti Hayes
These are the world religion chapters of Life of Pi. The importance to the story and Pi's life journey will continue and make sense. Yann Martel goes into wonderful, overly descriptive detail about Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. We also meet two more influences in Pi's life, Father Martin, the Catholic priest, who's answer to Pi's questions is "Love," and Mr. S. Kumar the Muslim baker who practices Islam at home on his carpet and in the mosque. This is good exposure to a few of the world religions explored by a young, energetic, inquisitive teen Piscine Molitar Patel. And don't forget his other teacher, Mr. Kumar who taught him Biology and was a vocal atheist (non-believer). An agnostic is a person who cannot decide about religions. Mr. Kumar and Mr. Kumar 😊 Chapter 23- 28 will complete the religious explorations and the novel will take a "turn." Keep listening!
