Episode 52 - Philippa Carter (Founder of Imagining Better)

Episode 52 is with Dr Philippa Carter. A Researcher and Consultant, with over 15 years of experience in the Heritage and Funding sector. Philippa is the founder of Imaging Better, an organisation that works with Local Authorities, Culture & Heritage Organisations, Communities and Universities to find ways to help people discover, learn from, engage with, ask questions about, and get involved in Heritage. In our chat we talk about Philippa’s time working for the National Lottery Heritage Fund, initially as a Grants Officer in the Scotland Office and then as Casework Manager in the North East of England Office. We also talk about Philippa’s time working as a Senior Consultant for Tricolor Associates, where she led on activity planning for clients on large scale projects, including Canterbury Cathedral’s Canterbury Journey project. We also chat about her Masters in Heritage Education & Interpretation, and the subsequent PhD in Geography and Heritage Studies - which she completed whilst starting a family during the pandemic. As a Freelancer, Philippa has worked on a wide range of projects including a multi-disciplinary initiative called Flourish. As part of that project the Phillipa worked on a new co-produced toolkit that aims to make commissioning fairer, strengthen long-term partnerships, and help create the biggest positive impact for communities. The toolkit reimagines commissioning in the creative and cultural sector, offering insights, data, and recommendations to support practitioners and shape stronger cultural policy.
