Episode 52 - SKC makes changes and improvements, Ben Sweat says sayonara, and a discussion about the SKC Academy system.
from Home and Away - A Sporting KC Podcast · host Drew VanderPloeg and Cody Welton
Peter Vermes was pissed, and he wanted to see a reaction in SKC's next match against Philadelphia. Drew and Cody discuss that reaction, which was definitely an improvement over the previous match vs. Seattle, as well as a potential light at the end of the tunnel regarding the future effectiveness of the midfield, namely Nemanja Radoja at the 6. Dany Rosero jumped off the plane and into the starting lineup and did an admirable job all things considered. You can see why SKC wanted to sign him and we expect to see plenty more of him in the future. Ben Sweat was a casualty of some mistake ridden play early this season and the signing of Tim Leibold. He had an opportunity to make a case for his continued inclusion in this team and unfortunately did not take advantage of it. The SKC Academy and Pro Player Pathway have been fairly inept of late in bringing forward key youth talent. We discus the current state of the academy system, our thoughts on how it is being managed, and whether we feel the club is taking it seriously or has the right personnel in place to make it effective. The KC Current are struggling with their own cadre of injuries and we chat about their prospects as the NWSL season gets into its 3rd weekend. Finally, a quick preview of this weekend's matchup at the bottom of the Western Conference. Perhaps with SKC facing a team with similar struggles to themselves they can find a way to their first victory of the year. Music by The Spin Wires
