The Gene notes itself a [email protected] and of course Zane and much love and whatnot get whatever get in it and get on it. Shane, you know what? I was reading a word last night and I came across this verse that I just want to share with you also with our listeners as well. Is that cool?

It's from the book of Hosea, chapter three, verse one. The Lord said to me, go show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raising case it was a raising case. Must have been pretty good.

That's my point. Let's keep it rocking like a vehicle that almost drives off a cliff in a movie. What is just teetering with some cash Meta and just me I'm offended that you would even insinuate to just me. Probably not the best but I'm competition with solid content you're pulling more junk than redneck trucks with topless bag lop line a bunch of nonsense not in the pocket falling off like nonsense instead of common stop your stage like a monster all you want is this is a shawna to dead you only hog your head.

Do yourself a favor, follow all the other plots that play with my prospect prostitute like I was Dr. Dre. You feel it, right? That was just me and Cass.

Meta, I've been feeling a little bit bad about not getting you an interview this episode. So you know what I'm gonna do? Oh, we're going with my man Matt Petershek who's with the tonight right now trying to get across movement list right now on the line, John Wells, the tonic of cross movement and his latest solo project called the Dash. Welcome.

Thanks for talking with us. Yeah, thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. So tell me, why did you decide to do this solo project?

Well, you know, I'm not sure if people know I come from a Christian rap group called the Cross Movement and everybody else has done several solo albums and I was the only one who didn't do one. So figured I'd do that. Nah, I guess, you know, I just wanted to also just, you know, have my own expression like the rest of the guys in my group and decided to finally, you know, get around to doing. And the Lord bless me to do that.

So tell us about this album. It's called the Dash. What's the meaning behind the album title? Yeah, basically the Dash.

It's just simply about, you know, how the two most important dates in life are birth date and the death date. We look on the tombstone and that's what we see. But a lot of times we miss that little insignificant dash in the middle, that separation, too. And it's the decisions that we make that end up determining, you know, whether or not the life that we live was worth it.

And it also can, you know, will set the itinerary for the life to come, because God will be holding us accountable for the decisions that we make in that dash. So basically, I hit on a lot of themes in life throughout the album, and I'm just, you know, you'll hear those pieces come through and the theme for the album for me. So tell me what initially drew you to hip hop in the first place? Well, I think hip hop just.

It was just a part of the culture of me growing up, you know, and just hearing somebody, you know, give it a mic and rhyme was. Was incredible. You know, I grew up with hip hop from hip hop's beginnings. And so just being an east coast kid and, you know, just being the trends with everybody else coming through the secular hip hop run DMC and just all the way through Rakim and, you know, I just loved it as an art form.

And then I guess when I became a Christian already, you know, loving hip hop, it was just a great way of being able to express yourself. It's what you get. So many words and I. A powerful tool to be used for the gospel as well.

So you grew up with this. How old were you when you wrote your first line? Wow. I must have been in college, so I had to be about 18 or maybe 20 years old by then.

So I think we used to do what we call freestyle. People banging on that table with a beat and we were just freestyling. But by the time I really sat down to write one, I had to be about 18 or 20 years old. And I guess that's where it all started for me in college.

Let me ask you this. What was your favorite cartoon growing up? Wow. See, I'm one of the older, mature dude, so, I mean, I'm gonna date myself Here, but it had to be somewhere like Speed Racer, man.

Like, I don't even know if anybody even remember. I guess they had a movie recently called Speed Racer, so some people might know who that is. But Speed Racer, man, he was the dude with the Mach 5, so I love him. If you and the rest of Frost movement were forced to fight it out in a UFC tournament, who would win?

Wow. I'm not sure. Probably True Life. He just seemed to always have a little bit of more martial arts knowledge than the rest of us.

Always loved the old martial arts movies and stuff, so I think he had one up on the rest of us. So probably I would say True Life as he watches more martial arts movies. Oh, my goodness, this guy. I mean, he gets the authentic movies that nobody else has seen to find.

He just always had him. So, yeah, I think he did. Awesome. Are you reading any books right now?

I am. I'm reading a book called Pagan Christianity, which is actually just challenging a lot of what I think about church life and things that I guess we've always held as, you know, just that we thought were Christian that actually come from just regular culture, you know, so it's just changing a lot of things that I think about, you know, just church life right now. So I'm sort of just plugging my way through that book now. What's your favorite movie?

My favorite movie. Wow. Probably somewhere between. Between Shawshank Redemption and Goodwill hunting and Speed Racer, those two, probably.

What kind of hobbies do you have outside of hip hop? I love to play basketball. I'm a big video game head, so my Xbox 350 gets a lot of work. And I guess right now I'm trying to figure out if a hip hopper could learn how to play golf and not lose his swagger.

So. So if we were to look at your playlist on itunes, what are you listening to the most these days? I'm listening to, I guess, a lot of different Christian hip hop that I couldn't even name because it's a lot of just independent stuff that people don't know. But also, I like Israel, listen to a lot of his stuff.

I've got a new album out now, so I'm trying to check in on that one. And that's it, man. A lot of crossing. More record stuff.

You have any guilty pleasures in music? Guilty pleasures? Not really. Not really.

If for some reason you can no longer have a music, what would you do? Well, I don't know, man. I think I've always loved music, but I think even in Hip hop. I've used hip hop as a tool to be able to deliver the gospel and be able to reach the culture.

So I've always said if music wasn't there then I'd figure out some other way to just do ministry. So I think I'd be in some form of ministry, just not using music. So I'm not exactly sure specifically, but I know it'd probably be somewhere around there. It's John Wells, the tonic from Cross Movement is debut solo album the dash drops on the 31st.

Hey, thanks for talking with us. Thanks for having me. Thanks a lot Matt. And thank you Tony, for being a part of this episode.

Back to the Bangathon. Chop it up A rocket of a dabby Rocky he wants to be the main attract so I keep him chained in the back. People are hurting. Home foreclosures and layoffs are at their highest numbers and climbing.

Even amidst our own difficulties, there are those who are hurting even more. You may be losing your home, but consider Gordon Baxter, the CEO of a major insurance firm. He lost three homes. I only have one loft and two houses left and I can't even afford a driver to get me to and from them anymore.

And that's just the beginning. CEOs everywhere having to give up their private jets for first class commercial flights, even purchasing an entire row so they don't have to sit next to regular people. And just because many work for banks have put us here to begin with, it doesn't mean the CEOs are not affected. My wife could only afford a collagen injection in one lip, just one.

And now she spits whenever she talks. It's disgusting. Another CEO of a large bank who wished to remain nameless said he now has to use regular tap water for his Irish wolfhounds. So please, if you know a CEO, be kind to them and ask how you can help.

Remember they've lost more than you'll ever have. A prophetic kid got a better. We want you we heard you speaking all those white I can't understand why you want to subtract the life out your hands and slaves for more to be saved if it ain't looking right I'm passing now it's all yours I can keep that empty feeling inside I don't want it no more. We can all live I've given up the past relationships it's not what you ask for it's what you give so believe in the reason why There is a dot if not at all we moth the sun crumbling fall last days is gone the sky More I never want to see y' all looking at me strange like I never given y' all the word of change.
