Episode 557: Good Boy, Play Dirty, Are We Good? reviews

We'll spin around and wag our tails for a treat -- we're kinda shameless that way here at Breakfast All Day. October begins with reviews of three very different films: GOOD BOY, a lean and clever horror movie told from a dog's perspective. Indy, who's director and co-writer Ben Leonberg's own retriever, is actually the best boy. And in case you're worried: He's OK at the end. In theaters. PLAY DIRTY, a listless action comedy from director and co-writer Shane Black, who's had a much better track record with this kind of movie in the past ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "The Nice Guys"). Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield lead an ensemble cast. Streaming on Prime Video, but you should avoid it. ARE WE GOOD?, an intimate documentary that looks at the life and career of comedian and "WTF Podcast" host Marc Maron. In particular, it focuses on how he's working through grief after the death of his girlfriend, filmmaker Lynn Shelton. We liked this. In theaters. Next week is nuts, with about eight movies coming out that have awards potential, or at least year-end buzz. So keep your ears open, and we'll help guide you through this busy time.
