This week on the pod, we’re heading overseas to bleak, cold world of Berlin in the 1970’s; but only for a moment before we break free to the sunny shores of… Wisconsin! Yes we’re continuing our mini-theme on breaking the facade of the American dream, only this time through the eyes of an immigrant seeking better opportunities and cheaper beer in the 1977 film; Stroszek. On today’s episode, we talk briefly about how Stroszek, and last week’s film “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” are in conversation with one another; and while in this film the American dream isn’t literally breaking your body, it sure is going to break your spirit. Try as our beloved, drunken main character might; once you’ve got a single knock against you in this life, it’s nearly impossible to get yourself back up.
