She earned her Ph.D. in 2002 in English at the Graduate Center, City University New York & did her dissertation research in teleology, evolutionary theory & self-organization at the Santa Fe Institute. She is a Rockefeller Foundation Residency alum, a former NY Council for the Humanities scholar & a 2020 Fulbright scholar in Russia.
