Episode 57 - Crisis averted(for now), do coaches really matter, and why is Preki so mad?

from Home and Away - A Sporting KC Podcast · host Drew VanderPloeg and Cody Welton

Lord have mercy, Sporting KC won an MLS match, and looked largely competent in doing so! It's been a minute since we've had the opportunity to analyze a victory so apologies if we are a bit out of practice. Drew and Cody break down a fairly comprehensive performance by SKC in Seattle, by far the most complete performance of the year by the club so far. Lots of love for the spacing and movement in the midfield, as well as a very positive performance by Jake Davis at right back. The team looks much more like the one we have become accustomed to watching, and we are hopeful this is the beginning of a string of performances of that ilk. A discussion around Felipe Hernandez, his fit with this club, and what his abilities are and whether this is the best place for them to be effectively used. We both think he has value, but perhaps that value is misread slightly. Do Coaches really matter? We spend some time on the topic after John Muller posted an extremely interesting article in The Athletic challenging that exact notion. A Zapruder-esque deep dive into the scuffle between the Preki and the SKC technical staff after the game. Drew goes hard on this one to clearly analyze every part of this interaction. Finally a quick convo of the upcoming matches this week and our hopes for continued success. Music by The Spin Wires
