Episode 57 - The Trial of the Chicago 7

from Talkin' TV

Welcome back people, to yet another fantastic episode of the Talkin' TV podcast!!!! Well, it's hard to believe, but even though theaters are probably never opening again, we have a new movie to talk about, and I think it's safe to say this movie is going to get nominated for a lot of Oscars. On this week's podcast, Chris & Dom talk about the latest film from Netflix & Aaron Sorkin, the coveted screenwriter turned director for his sophomore directing effort, the Trial of the Chicago 7! Based on the real-life 1969 trial which took place due to increased surveillance and litigation from Richard Nixon's new administration against the hippie, anti-Vietnam and Black Panther movements of the time, the film follows defendants Tom Hayden, Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, Bobby Seale, Renny Davis, David Dellinger, Lee Weiner & John Froines as they have to deal with the worst offense against the first amendment: boomers set in traditionalist ways. The film continues with Sorkin's signature rapid fire dialogue and monologue a minute storytelling, as well as once again containing a massive ensemble cast, consisting of the likes of Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, Mark Rylance, Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Michael Keaton. Chris & Dom talked about Sorkin's creative history, their thoughts on the film as well as whether or not the film is as relevant as it's claiming to be, despite the incredibly and rather tragically relevant subject matter. It's all covered here, only on Talkin' TV!!!
