Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Happy Thursday, and welcome to Tweed Trends. Today's episode title is Do Plex Justice Done Quick? Let's get started.
Doo doo doo. Hashtag, scoda, nominee, Justice Kennedy. You guys know I do my best to stay away from politics, right? But when it's trending so high and for so long, I feel like I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't mention it at all.
So here we go. Supreme Court Justice Kennedy announced his retirement yesterday and is effective July 31. People lost their minds when this came out. Why?
Well, because Justice Kennedy has been known as a swing vote in such votes as abortion rights, affirmative action, LGBT rights, guns, voting rights, campaign finance. You know, so I understand, but come on, guys, he's 81 years old. He's probably tired of this. You know, I can imagine it must be a stressful job that people come to you and say, please tell us what we should do in this situation.
And then him and his group of other justices, they have to make that decision. So I get it. So now the focus is on the nominee to replace him. And people feel like because of the Trump investigation that the vote should be held off until 2019.
And that would be kind of cool. Yeah. But is that reality? Like, could that really happen?
Now they did that with President Obama. They said that his nominee could not go through for the simple fact that they felt like the next president should be able to pick it and not be outgoing president. Well, I don't know. We'll see.
There's a list of 25 prospective nominees right now. And I don't know. Senate is scheduled to make a vote in the fall for the successor. And I don't know.
We kind of have to keep our eye on this. It could definitely change the face, not only of the Supreme Court, but of the world in which we know it. Hashtag SGDQ2018. I absolutely love it when people think outside the box.
And Game's Done Quick is like the perfect example of just that. So currently, from June 24th through July 1st, summer Game's Done Quick is going on. Well, what is it? It's a video game marathon.
Well, of course, you're like, well, that happens all the time. But no, this one is different. This is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon, where volunteers play games at incredible speeds called speedrunning. And they do this all for entertainment.
The event is streamed live online, nonstop, and all donations go directly to charity. So for the summer games that are going on now, the charity that they're raising money for is Doctors Without Borders. So if you're interested, why not go over to GamesDoneQuick.com and check it out, maybe even give a donation. The next one will be in January, which will be the Winter Games Done Quick.
Hashtag Google Doplex. Let me start by saying this. Topics like this get me nervous, excited, giddy, just all these emotions rolled up into one. So let me apologize now in case I get a little hyper or flustered as I'm going through this.
But have you heard about this? It's a new voice-powered digital concierge that can call businesses with simple requests. When I say call businesses, I mean literally call them, like on the phone, and like, hello, call them, yes. So where can you find this?
It's going to be in the Google Assistant app. And basically, it's an artificial intelligence agent that you can ask to do small tasks for you. Like you would say, hey, Google, set a hair appointment for me. And it would do that.
It would call your hair, dressers, and speak with whoever answers the phone, and set an appointment for you. How wild is that? Now, because this assistant sounds so much like a person, they had to set it so that the artificial intelligence agent actually specified themselves as such, and that they also said that the call is being recorded, which is pretty cool. Now, Vice President Scott Huffman of engineering for the Google Assistant, he kind of described it as, a weird person that can only do three things.
So yeah, that's like the drawback. It only does holiday hours, booking hair appointments, and restaurant reservations. But if this is where it's starting now, and it sounds so real, I can only imagine where this technology is going to go, eventually. And one of the things that people are kind of blown away with is the fact that it uses us and us, just like we do.
And then on top of that, in the beta testing, they tried to throw loose. They tried to catch it off guard and make it mess up. And basically, the program is designed to steer you back towards the original task at hand. Now, if the computer is not able to get you to get back there, then that's going to do one of two things.
It's either going to connect you to a live operator to finish it, or it's going to back out of the call completely and say, I'll call back later. How crazy is that? That just seems unreal, but then so real, because of where we are now with technology. So just imagine where this is going to go.

Before I go, just to let you know, today is National Insurance Awareness Day. Now, there's not much on the background of this day. However, insurance is very important because it protects us when the unfortunate happens. Here's an idea.
Check out at Give Insurance. Excuse me, not Give Insurance, at Give Insurance, G-I-V-E-S-U-R-A-N-C-E, on Twitter.
