Episode 59: All Things EPIC ART with the Seward Johnson Atelier and Josh Cooper

from People and Places along the Heritage Trail · host Elkhart County, Indiana

We're kicking off the month of October by celebrating all things EPIC ART!  You can find beauty everywhere on the Elkhart County Art Trail and as the listeners know we celebrated 15 fabulous years of Quilt Gardens with world-renowned sculptor Seward Johnson’s stunningly realistic life-size bronze sculptures.  But that wasn't all!  Talented artists joined the celebration, with their creative and playful takes on public art around every corner on the Heritage Trail. On this episode, we chat with Lynn DeClemente Losavio, Program Officer at The Seward Johnson Atelier.  Building on the legacy of the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute and  School of Sculpture, The Seward Johnson Atelier promotes the  appreciation of and education about sculpture and public art through the  creation, maintenance, sales and public placement of Seward Johnson’s  sculpture. The Seward Johnson Atelier is the exclusive owner of  copyright in Seward Johnson’s sculpture and is committed to educating  the public about his artistic legacy. Lynn talks about how Seward Johnson got his inspiration for the over 400 sculptures, how they are created and just why they look so lifelike. Then we chat with Josh Cooper, an incredible muralist from Goshen. Josh started painting and creating when he was young and growing up in Chicago, he was fascinated with street art and graffiti. Find out how he went from his passion for graffiti to putting his work on canvases and diving more into "legal" art.  The Elkhart County CVB is proud to unveil a new Josh Cooper mural featuring the new IN Indiana branding later in October.
