Episode 59: Maha Mansour Shares Her Pediatric Knowledge and Experiences with Homeopathy

from Homeopathy 247 Podcast · host Homeopathy247

What changes when a practitioner understands both conventional pediatrics and homeopathic prescribing? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with Maha Mansour, a pediatric doctor and trained homeopath now based in Canada. Maha shares why she became interested in homeopathy, how her years working with children influence her consultations and why careful observation is so important when working with young patients. From Pediatric Medicine to Homeopathy Maha spent many years working as a pediatric doctor before training in homeopathy. After moving from Kuwait to Canada, she wanted to explore another approach to healthcare while continuing to use the medical knowledge she had developed throughout her career. Homeopathy introduced her to a very different style of consultation, particularly the idea of looking closely at the individual way each person experiences their symptoms. Knowing When a Child Needs Medical Care One important advantage of Maha's pediatric background is her ability to recognise when a child's condition may require urgent medical attention. She gives asthma as an example, discussing the importance of recognising warning signs and knowing when emergency assessment may be necessary. Homeopathy has not been established as a treatment for asthma and should never replace prescribed inhalers or emergency treatment. Breathing difficulty, blue lips, severe wheezing or a child struggling to speak or breathe requires urgent medical care. Observation Matters Maha repeatedly encourages parents to observe their children carefully. What makes the symptoms better? What makes them worse? When do they appear? What changes between one day and another? She explains that these details can become important when differentiating between homeopathic remedy pictures. Why Two People May Need Different Remedies Maha shares a case involving several apparently unrelated complaints. She describes selecting a constitutional remedy by considering not only the physical symptoms but also the individual's wider characteristics. When the patient's sister reportedly developed similar complaints, Maha did not recommend simply using the same remedy. For her, this demonstrates one of the central ideas behind individualized medicine: similar symptoms do not automatically mean the same prescription. Homeopathy With Children Children can present very differently from adults, and their symptoms can also change quickly. Maha believes parents play an important role because they observe the child between consultations and can report changes in energy, sleep, appetite, behaviour and physical symptoms. She describes this as a partnership between practitioner and family. Recurrent Childhood Illness Another case involves an 11 year old girl who was frequently absent from school with recurrent respiratory illnesses and fatigue. Maha describes her homeopathic prescribing and the improvements the family reported afterward. This is an individual case experience rather than evidence that homeopathy prevents respiratory infections. Children with frequent infections, persistent fatigue or significant school absence should receive appropriate pediatric assessment. Asthma, Eczema and Allergies Maha has a particular interest in children with asthma, eczema and allergic conditions because these were common throughout her pediatric career. She discusses conventional treatments such as corticosteroids and why some families seek complementary options. Steroids can be essential and effective treatments for asthma and eczema when appropriately prescribed. They should not be stopped, reduced or replaced without guidance from the healthcare professional managing the child's condition. Homeopathy has not been established as a treatment that cures asthma, eczema or allergic disease. Educating Parents About Homeopathy Maha believes prescribing is only part of the practitioner's role. She also wants parents to understand why homeopaths ask detailed questions and why the same diagnosis can lead to different remedy choices. The more clearly parents can observe and describe what is happening, the more useful the consultation becomes. Key Takeaways Maha combines experience in pediatrics with homeopathic training. Knowing when a child needs medical attention remains essential. Homeopathic prescribing focuses on individual symptom patterns. Observation from parents can provide valuable information. Similar diagnoses do not automatically lead to the same remedy. Maha discusses recurrent illness, asthma, eczema and allergies. Homeopathy should not replace necessary pediatric treatment. Prescribed asthma, allergy or eczema medicines should only be changed with appropriate medical guidance. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and be updated with our latest episodes.
