Episode 59: Tiffany Mitchell | Indiana Fever Guard & WNBA 2016 All-Rookie Team Subscribe on Apple Podcast | Google Play | Stitcher Rich Take On Sports Show Notes: Rich Spotlight: Tiffany Mitchell Finally feeling 100% healthy after recovering from torn knee cartilage Decided to explore sports because her brother would come home with trophies and she was jealous Initially played on all-boys basketball teams and then started playing on girls teams for AAU teams in Charlotte and then in Atlanta Raised by single mother and learned the value of hard work through watching her Dawn Staley was one of her idols growing up watching the Charlotte Sting After tearing her ACL in high school, South Carolina was still one of the main schools that still recruited her It was almost surreal that she was able to play for her idol Dawn Staley at South Carolina and helping build the foundation for the Lady Gamecocks basketball program Named SEC Player of the Year in 2014 & 2015 Earned the Dawn Staley Award for the nation’s best guard in 2016 Feels very blessed to have been drafted by Indiana even though she fell lower in the draft than she expected but she has used that as motivation Selected 9th overall by the Indiana Fever in 2016 She spends her off-season with the WNBA overseas playing in Russia Words of Wisdom from Tiffany Mitchell: “Nothing is given to you in life and you’re going to have to work hard for everything.
