Episode 6 – In one lifetime

from Keeping Dad Alive

Richard reflects on the connection between his life’s work and that of his daughter Erika, who is leading the Biden/Harris transition team for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The thread that connects them begins in the tenements of Manhattan, where Richard’s mother was born and contracted tuberculosis and where Richard survived a fire, and weaves through the shantytowns in Central Park during the Depression to the squatter areas in the Philippines to the communities on the South Side of Chicago that were devastated by steel plant closings. It travels on through Erika’s work addressing the root causes of poverty in America.
