Jered Lyons' journey has come full circle. Born at Washington Adventist Hospital, he grew up Seventh-day Adventist while playing high school and college ball at non-Adventist schools that were accommodating of the Sabbath. He now serves at Washington Adventist University's athletic director and women's head coach, where he's been since 2014.With a background in communications and design, Jered brought his multimedia skills to WAU's program, and since then, along with his staff, he has continued to elevate the program's brand with professional photography, communications, and video.Jered talks about the legacy of the late Rick Murray, a legendary figure for Adventist athletics, who started the first Adventist intercollegiate athletic program at Columbia Union College, the precursor to WAU. He was the first Adventist basketball coach to win a conference championship in 1992, and Jered shares about Murray's legacy and how he tries to embody it today.Jered also talks about the challenges and advantages of serving as both a head basketball coach and head athletic director, how he maintains a distinctively Adventist program while also recruiting some players that may not be Adventist themselves, and highlights his 2023-2024 roster and season.Thank you for listening!
