Episode 6 - Kavod HaTefillah, Kavanah B’Tefillah and Alonei Shabbat

from RZ חדשי · host Mali Brofsky, Johnny Solomon and Reuven Spolter

The most recent (with much improved sound quality!) episode of RZ (Religious Zionist) Weekly hosted by R’ Reuven Spolter, R’ Johnny Solomon and Mali Adler Brofsky is now available for download! IIn this episode we discuss Alonei Shabbat (Religious Zionist Shabbat magazines) and how their prevalence - notwithstanding their many adverts and political stories which make them halachically problematic to read on Shabbat and specifically in shul - highlights a significant disengagement with prayer. Through our discussion we note how Alonei Shabbat are used as a vehicle to spread information to Religious Zionist communities, while also acknowledging the absence of Alonei Shabbat in most Ezrat Nashim. We then proceeded to explore the wider topic of prayer, and whether a more impactful and meaningful prayer experience can be nurtured within the current framework of communal prayer. Through this refreshingly honest conversation about the status of prayer in Orthodoxy, we each explored our unique expectations and experiences of prayer, and we concluded by offering suggestions about how meaningful improvements can and should be made. As always, we very much welcome your feedback and we hope you enjoy the show.
