And it's like okay hello and welcome back to Engineering we're really excited about kicking off 2017 with a bang we are gonna have episodes for at least one month going strong and we're gonna record again we're gonna bring it all to you thank you all for staying in and listening to our stuff if you listen to our last episode where we had Roger Mayan from Horizon Comics in Lakehous California also go on to www.horizoncomics.com Roger can have a pull list for you he can send him out to you Roger is the best comic book shop owner knowledge extraordinaire I have ever met ever being on Roger's eyes are so big right now. He's like, that's me. Like level 9,000. I'm over.
I'm over. That was it. So now back on our previous episode, we talked about DC Rebirth and how much we loved it and how much everything's going really good for that. There were some pros and cons, but the pros hugely out numbered the cons of what we're loving of what DC has been doing.
We're really appreciative of what they're all about and going towards the fan base of the comic books and everything. Right now I am one of your hosts, Daniel Murray. Colta Freeman. Jason.
And then we have two actually special guests. We have Roger May in the studio, Roger Say Hi. Hey. And we also have Caleb Schaff.
You guys remember we have an introduction to Caleb Schaff and Caleb was on I think two one or two episodes from the last season that we had. Caleb, hello everybody. OK. Daniel, you're like all about continuity.
There's like, so remember like, dude, you know why? Because I went through all our episodes and I was like, I don't want any of what I laughed like I never listened to before. Like freaking cool. Like when we were talking about Robotech.
Oh my god. What am I feeling? What's happening? That makes me laugh to this day.
Oh, this one. I thought we got really long. Oh, I listened to it so much. I laughed.
I have so much. So actually this episode we're going to talk about 2016. We did not record an episode in 2016, just because some crap that happened all of our lives. But now we're diligently wanting to get back and just talking about things that we love.
Everything has to do with pop culture, movies, music, TV, comics, everything that has to do with pop culture and how it influences our world and things that we like, things that we don't like. The reason why it's called the pioneering is because we all have our opinions and we like to give them. Sometimes we disagree. Sometimes we don't.
But it's just a nice fun time because we all sit around a booze field table and just talk. So we're actually, since we recorded another episode, I'm I think four or five in right now. That's neither here or there. Do you remember Micro Machines?
No. Yes. Yes. No.
That's also a little micro dude. My little tiny tank. Like Gigal Watch? Like Gigal Patch?
Like a small, hot wheel, plastic piece. Yeah. Yeah. Did you ever play the video game, though?
Yeah, I did. That was so awesome. You're driving this off-road G across the breakfast table with Cheerios outlining the road. You'd hit a little spot of milk and spin out.
It was freaking awesome. Loved it. It sounds really bad. I don't remember it by name.
Dude, I had a whole base and a little tanks and little soldiers and the whole thing. They're like those people. Yeah, like some of the bass you're going to attach buildings you're building, then you'd take a picture. You'd hit a button that blows the building and you'd be misremembering them.
I remember mine. Micro machines live inside of an even larger car. I would open up the car and like, like, flat. Oh, yeah.
They didn't have a little idea. They were different. Yeah, there were those where you'd have a micro machine. I always had a military base and you could put a little building together and then you could show it.
He was like, no man. He was like, no man. He was like, no, no. You can imagine the explosions all insane.
Now you can get the bananas. It's like a false part. Like, plastic. But it was awesome when you were little.
I mean, it was great. I think I probably still have some. So why are you talking about micro machines? Oh, because the commercials would have this, like, auction and that's what your interests sounded like.
So you remember the lesson that we had to get a job on? And then we went to go here and then we went to school. Then we went to go here and then we went to school. You're so mean to me, man.
So anyways, this episode we're going to be talking about 2016 since we didn't, we're unable to have an episode. We're going to talk about the things that we didn't like and did, like, we're going to start with television. Okay. So I'm going to start with Colton.
What was something that you absolutely loved when it came to television this year? Or you can say something that you didn't like? What I'm going to tell you is, first note, I don't have cable. Just a little dozen nowadays, right?
I think you have Hulu or something like that. I don't know if you want to talk about it because there are some shows or just like demand and things like that. So like I missed all the Game of Thrones train just heads up. Yeah.
Why is that one? Why is that one? I don't want to see this from anybody else because I'm sure everyone's going to talk about it. I watched Stranger Things on Netflix.
I watched it before the hype jumped out only because my girlfriend is insane about horror stuff. So she saw a scary TV show come to Netflix and she was all about it. So I think Dave Free, we're already in it. Yeah.
It was very good. Unfortunately, I don't know why though. I know what to say. No one's got their crazy things to talk about it.
But when I watched it and I was watching, I couldn't think of something to say after the episode and go, wow, that was good. I just liked it. I don't know why. It's really weird.
Maybe because I hate most horror things nowadays. Any movie, anything like that? It's not really good. It's just a cash grab no matter what.
But that TV show felt really developed and it was really good. I liked it just because it was some of the ways, the reason why I got into it is I only people on Facebook. Stranger Things, Stranger Things, Stranger Things, Stranger Things, everyone was talking about it. But the reason why I got into it and I was like, dude, what the heck is Stranger Things?
I was like, dude, it's horror. Goonies. And I was like, well I do love goonies. Yeah.
I do love goonies. I'm like, dude, you got to watch it. You got to watch it. You got to watch the first episode.
The first episode, they do a great job of cooking you in, of getting you in into the story. It's just a different story. It was really, I don't know, it was a really different story. It was really cool.
Can we all just, like, if I could pour a drink out right now, I would, I wouldn't do that to you, Roger, because we're inside your car. Can we all just like, imagine it would pour a drink out for Barb? Oh, pour a bottle. Kayla doesn't quite know.
Spoilers for Kayla. No, you can't see anything else right? But you've seen Firebase. Yes.
With kids. Yes. I did. Oh, my God.
No, I loved it. I really enjoyed it. I thought all the characters were great. There wasn't a character I hated.
I thought they all played the part really well. I especially love, hate me if I don't order names. The police officer, I thought, was the best role in the whole show for me personally. His name was Chuck.
What was his name? Oh, crap. I'm DB. I'm DB.
But yeah, on that note, I like to his character. No, I won't. No, I won't. I won't choose the kids most likely.
They all love the children. I'm okay. I thought when Nona was freaking awesome. She was on point.
Yeah. But yeah, I mean, I thought she was really having a germs breakdown. Yeah. She just had a camera all the time.
That was her actual house. It was a proper big ol' house. But yeah, I know. I really enjoyed him.
I thought his whole like, I'm a cop of a small town. If this place doesn't matter, nothing ever happens. And he always says, oh crap. I really have to buy into something strange.
It's happening. Oh, look at you. Look at you. Look at me.
Oh, it's really awesome. And then I also saw him on like a presidential campaign. I thought it was cool too. He was just there.
I was like, yeah, just watch it. I'm not even gonna get politics. No, no, no, no, no, no. 2016.
Oh, yeah. Not that. This moment. 2016, we're gonna block out all politics happening.
Yeah. But I did just see him. I thought I was on his eyes are huge right now. He's like, you can't block that out for eight years.
Or at least four. It's gotta be a fucking flashpoint. Well, sorry. That was all point.
I like it. Definitely make it show. Yeah. I mean, I like the way the design, like the creatures, I like the reverse world they were in.
Yeah. It all looked really cool. Their villains, so-called they could say, they looked really cool. The main guy was the Timmy.
Yeah, the Timmy. Yeah, the Timmy. It also reminded me a lot of Akira, which let me touch on this one. We were talking about this earlier.
Of her powers. Oh, 11. Yeah, 11 her powers. That little girl, she's on point, dude.
Yeah. That was the thing that shocked me of how could she, when she didn't speak a line hardly ever. But she did an excellent job of portraying all the emotions going on inside of her. Those two brothers, I forgot their names, IMDB.
They're probably gonna show me. The Duffer brothers, they're the ones that were just like, if they got to extract that from Billy Bob Thornton. Or not, sorry. Milly Bobby Brown.
Wow. Milly Bobby Brown. She just executed like no one's business. She just so freaking good.
Like, all those kids are great jobs. Besides Winona. And I was cool with deflacing all the telekinesis powers and things that she could do. I mean, that's my favorite anime for the whole time.
So seeing that in a real movie, a live action, I guess show was awesome. All the things she could do. It was amazing. I really enjoyed it.
Raj, what do you think about your things? I loved it. Why? One of the things that I thought was really cool was how well they did everything for it being a period piece.
All the re-animated props. I mean, everything. I mean, everything. The music was great too.
Yeah. I got into it. What was that song I downloaded after? I was like, oh, I went homeboy was like peeking out on her window.
I was like, oh, I wear my sunglasses at night. That song? Oh, it's like the OG version. Oh, yeah.
I listened to the crap out of that song. Afterwards, I was like, oh, that's a good song. That's a good soundtrack. It's great.
It's not a good song. It's a vinyl store decor. I love it. Almost spotted a persoze.
I never cashed it. I never cashed it. I had a skip on that. So it was a period piece, Raj, and you liked that.
Yeah. Yeah. From the 80s, which is my jam, because I was like in my 20s. That's a prime.
As Raj as Brian. Raj as Brian. It was excellent. I thought it was really good.
And I love how Netflix does the 10 episodes. It's not overwhelming. It's not overwhelming. You can kick it out in eight days, but two or three days.
Which feels good. You don't worry about falling behind. It's all beyond Netflix. It's there.
I think one Netflix talks about releasing shows weekly. They've wanted to go to that. I was worried. I'm glad before they ever get to that.
If it ever happens, it's originally just came out now. If you watch that whole season. Yeah. The thing about a stranger thing, the Netflix, I think if you look at all their original content, they do stick around between the nine and 12 episodes of Raj.
If you look at regular network television, 22 episodes, yes, I know it's weekly. Yes, I know it's weekly. Yes, I know all the money that's involved. I get it.
But when you have 22 episodes, if you look at shows like Arrow or Flash, they draw out the store for so long. It drags. I literally waited a week for that crap. If you miss one episode too, when you can't figure out how to get back and watch that, if it's done, then just like, well, I guess I'm going to go through this season.
And then by the time it's on Netflix, you're like, no, I don't think I'm really kidding anymore. That's what's happening to me. I don't know what season I stopped in Arrow, but I saw it was finally in Netflix. I was like, I don't care anymore.
I stopped. I stopped watching it. I'm not sure they were to the 80s. That was great.
You love the storyline. I love the acting. Jay, what did you think about Stranger Things? I would agree with everything that was said for sure.
I loved the music. I would just kind of build on what we were just talking about. It was really tightly scripted. I liked that you and I have gone on at length about shows like Lost.
And that sort of thing where there's like this mystery, but then it's like 20 episodes later and you have like breadcrumbs still that have strung you along forever. I feel like this came in, put this like incredible mystery in front of you that you're like salivating. What is it? And then really paid off without putting you at your wit's end.
And then it's like you're like, I'm not going to pay straight. I feel like I cook you and then deliver. And it was great that it's only like you said it's in episodes and breadcrumbs things that you left behind. You can pick up on it because when you get really long, it's like that and then they leave breadcrumbs here and there.
And again, 12, 30 episodes in the line. You're like, wait, what was that about? And you have three questions. And now it's like maybe they even answered it.
You don't remember what the question was. Like, what the fuck? You played Jeopardy for a second. You're like the answer.
I don't know how. That's why so many of those network TV shows have to have like a 40 second intro that's like previously on. And that's something that happened like two years ago. So there's a lot of things that's great of keeping it short enough and jam packing it up in there to maybe like two episodes back.
You still remember like, oh, that person just came back. This was just mentioned again. It's really good. So by the end, you were able to tie everything together with those two or three days you were watching the whole thing and then you're set.
Now I'm ready for a season. It seems new. Yeah. My favorite was the acting, but I'm Millie.
But I also like Dustin had to look him up real quick if you guys had thought. The one that you said it is you. Remember you did that post about and take like what are three actors and put them out who are you most like. I thought you put them up there.
But Dustin, Chris Bratton. Yeah, probably Dustin. Did you finally watch? Dude, I'm so proud of him.
Did you like it? I did. Especially because I Chris Bratton. I really love that guy and I'm sure Kaleidos.
I'm a huge and sorry man. I thought he was great. He was a lot of fun. She's very nervous.
Yeah. So it was funny. It was not like as he will not listen to a stand up. But in that show, she looked at me and said, you know what?
He's pretty funny. I like that. Yeah. That show changed her view of that man.
My Dunza list. You're Dunza. Dude, I mean, Dean Blanket's is like one of the best things he's ever said. He also has been blanket.
No, I love it. I think it was season three when he was trying to get April's attention. He's like, okay, final stop talking to you. And then April's turn around.
He's like, reverse. So I kind of get it. Oh, maybe I saw it. I weakly chase him with 70 texts.
Did you watch them? So maybe? No, I did not watch myself on TV. Yeah.
So Stranger Things was really great. Million dust. Oh, which is really, really, really good. So that was one thing that we really, really did like about 2016 when it came to television on Netflix.
We were talking a little bit earlier. I'm going to go with something that we didn't. Not that we hated it, but it was like why? Netflix also came out with this series right now.
They're doing a Marvel series. They had the first one was Daredevil. I thought season one of Daredevil was amazing. Season two Daredevil was great.
It wasn't amazing. Which was so, so, so. It was like, dude, it was tight AF. What?
It wasn't as good as the first one. Way better. No, no, no, no, no. Season one was like, this is tight.
Check it out. Do karate, do karate, now. I'm just fighting a big dude. What happened?
Not to. In the villain, the first four episodes of Daredevil Season two, great. When Punisher has him up on the roof. And he's looking at it.
He's like, when you hit someone, they get back up. When I hit someone, they stay down. Amazing concept. But it's like, it was kind of like what happened with, and we'll get to this later on the episode with BBS.
We'll get doomsday in here and then one of women in here will do this, do this, do this, do this, do this, do this, do this. With Daredevil, the first season, they had one villain. And it was amazing. This, we have, we have, we have Punisher.
The first four episodes were an arc of a comic book story. You met the Punisher. The second four episodes were an arc of a comic book story. You met a lecture.
This is the last episode where we're gonna start melting these things together now. Right. But that whole melding, it was like a Scott Snyder thing. They went too wide and in the conclusion, it had to come to a direct conclusion within one or two episodes where she's like, this was so broad, I felt kind of jaded.
It was great, but the ending didn't stand up to the first time. No, Marvel show has ended right. Daredevil's season one. Daredevil's season one.
Dude, it fizzled. It was like you finally were like, okay, Kingpin versus Daredevil. Okay, that was great. It was not, it wasn't as a joke.
I had to do it better. The guy who killed that one in the bowling alley where they're just jujitsu in the, I don't know if we can swear anything. Shit. And then he spikes his face on something because he's like, Kingpin's like, Kingpin's is fighting with that guy.
I was like, I was the best fight I've seen in a TV or a movie. No, the fight scene ends up in the hallway. No, in the hallway. The hallway was great.
And he tried to recreate that with his stairwell. They tried to, but I don't think it was good, but not as good as someone. Roger, I'm not going to reach across the table because he got fired there. It was very cool, but it was also like, how do you not make that super, super cool?
You know, endless bad guys in this great ass hallway scene, and I'm like, yeah, other movies can try that, it's not going to be that cool. That was, that was on point. But as far as the 1v1 where I'm like, all right, Daredevil was going to fight Kingpin, I was like, I've already done something that's just fine. I'm just fighting.
I'm jumping in the green. I kind of agree with Caleb. When he finally faced off the campaign, it was just kind of like, I can see a comment. It was just kind of like, well, he's gonna beat him up in this alleyway and then it's gonna be over.
I felt that too. And especially because I personally, I think, I don't remember how many episodes I had. But all the way up until then, we had seen him looking super hardcore and his just like street gear, like black shirt. I looked like an under armor shirt.
I looked like some black, you know, whatever, pants. I'm like, dude, he looks awesome because he's just like super street level. And that was the first episode where he came out and it's like, daredevil gear. And you kind of knew that was coming, but it didn't look quite as cool, in my opinion, as just like a dude running around.
I'm sorry, Jake. No, real fast. But then I would agree, the alleyway fight was cool, but you kind of knew from the beginning. It's like, it's just like, oh, cool.
It was like the only fight in that show. It would have been tight. It's like you hit him before in other films. Yeah, but in other films.
Yeah, because after having seen like, we mentioned the hallway scene, the fight against the samurai guy with the hooks. Oh my God. And then now it's like. So much better fights.
Yeah. You think it would have the mini bosses. Yeah. Then when he finally got to the main boss and he dropped a bomb on his head and then punch it.
It was just like, I, I, I, I, I, I, rinse and rip. Yeah. You think it would have been cooler. Because knowing me, there's all the things I like certain steps, but it always could have been cooler.
And taking that standpoint, could have been cooler with this. You actually hit the nail on the head, the smaller bosses. It's kind of like a video game. When you go from level level, you hit the small bosses and you get the big battle.
Okay. When you get to the big band boss, the very end, you're not just fighting the big band boss. You're fighting all his henchmen. And you're trying to get them off while you're trying to deal with him.
If it was like a building. I feel like there's two ways fighting people. Has he's trying to get to the top? Yeah, exactly.
Exactly. Because there's like how you were all the season. That's what that was. It was like, I'm using a mini boss until we get to, you know, floor 12.
And it was just like, I do the fights on the lower floors. We're so much cool to watch. Yeah. And you know, like the story, why I think it was all very good.
But it was just like, that was the, I remember talking to my friends and being like, that show was way cooler for seven episodes. And then it was okay for the rest. I think that's what every Marvel Netflix show has done. Where it was like Jessica Jones had an episode eight fucking go to best show ever.
Luke Cage ended episode six, great, really great F and Shell. Luke Cage. Continue. You're like, I didn't do that.
We'll get to Luke Cage. That's what I was going to do. And season two of Daredevil, kind of the same thing. But I was still so excited at how comic book he was.
I was like, yeah, four episodes, four issues, a punisher, four episodes, four issues, a lecture, four episodes, or I guess now five episodes or whatever is remaining at this point. And then they were like, and then here's the shit on the ninja's. I was like, this is cool. I want to see you find a lot of ninjas on electric.
Yeah. I want to see you find a lot of ninjas on electric. Yeah. Punisher to be on his team.
Where's the team? Yeah. Okay. So.
Wow. Two minutes and two minutes and a two-half. Okay. Everybody on this team, what do you think would have been better if he still carried those wounds.
War that old suit. As I'm rooting, I'm not rooting. I'm talking about the first thing when I came up with things. Roger, correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes or no? That suit is Craig Millar's run on Daredevil? Yes. Okay.
So that was a suit from comic book. Yeah. And with Snake, and those guys, it was all interesting. Frank Miller's run.
Okay. So if that was his fight, carrying those scars and battles, it wouldn't make more sense. And the last shot, panning up, building, and you see him in his actual narrative suit. Pussing.
Yeah, I would have been bummed out if that was okay. I was glad they finally put it on. No, I just think they should have done something to put him, I guess basically what I'm saying is something to put him at a disadvantage. But I feel like he entered it for the first time from a position of power.
I wish he would have had either like, dude, your body's like so effed up right now, you either put on this, that's like his only like, you know what I mean? He needs something. Yeah, but you're not wearing this, you're gonna die. Yeah, like something.
Also being kind of like Goku's weakness. I want you at your best before I fight you. Daredevil was at his best and he still struggled against keep it. Yeah, well just cool.
I guess I've heard about it. It was cool. I'm not the overall this season, the show, everything about it was a success. Yeah, I was super lucky.
Yeah. I just think for me personally that final fight was like okay that was cool but, you know. Yeah, I'm gonna go right to you to Colton. This is my only, the reason why I prefer season one over season two was more storytelling than shock value.
I think season two was more like, okay Punisher, here's a prison alleyway, which was badass by the way. Prison alleyway, we're gonna rely on grit and gore to carry the scene and carry you as a force to be reckoned with. More than great story. I think the story was great but I think in season one, it was great season two, they relied more on Punisher and his grit and gore than at season one which was great progressive storytelling.
Let's get to him real quick. I wanna jump in and say first, I thought the Punisher was the best adaptation to that show. Personally, it's what caught me really. Your station was great.
Your station was great. The story telling for Punisher wasn't as good because he's going through like he's a gore. No, no, no, no, no, it was so good. But the story tellers relied on that to carry the show.
I kind of don't think so though. Because I knew Punisher was like, you know back to things like that but when he's telling his story throughout that show, I felt more involved than I ever had before. It's like he really tells that, I feel like he was like, oh yeah, Punisher's family type. You know, kind of something like that max or whatever.
Yeah. But when he tells the penny and dime, well no, it kind of carries throughout the whole thing. I'll say like the scene when Daredevil pulls him out of the, when he was being tormented or whatever. I think they're like sitting in the park or whatever it was and he tells that story.
Yeah, it was pretty good. It was good. Because now I truly feel like I made it to you. It was, it felt like he was so much more connected than his family than this like that one tragedy tournament and then I don't know, I felt way more connected with this character, this Punisher than anything.
I always like a Punisher but way more than ever before. And I felt that story alone from those couple scenes, she was like one scene, that carried enough of it to where the other times you saw him he could be pissed off in glory. He just killing everybody because he has a right to be almost. Can we all agree that that was an excellent casting?
Absolutely. That was a great casting. Yeah, I mean it's perfect. Yeah.
And he just, and especially when he said when Daredevil goes to break him out when those Irish, I was trying to correct him, I was trying to kill him. And he's sitting there thinking he's gonna die. So he's just reading that story. He read to his girl before she died in his head.
Like that's the coolest thing. That's cool. That is the coolest thing. He thought he was gonna die.
So he's like, I'm just gonna read the story the last time I told my daughter, those last words I gave my daughter that I don't see those little things. Maybe that was a bloodcore scene that he jumped out of the community, but that little snippet told so much more story than it, than the scene needed. You know what I mean? Yeah, I agree with you there.
And I think the difference is here between, more predominantly me and Shaw from me and everyone is that your ultimate love 100% is comics. So you saw that comic adaptation onto film. For me, it's film period. So I saw what great storytelling is in season one.
And I was like, that's fine, right? That's great. That's great. Season two was more of a comic book adaptation to a television series.
So that's why you connected it with it more because you saw the things that connected with you more. So there's a reason why you like that one. You prefer that one over that one. And there's a reason why I prefer season one over season two.
That's what's great. I still think season two was really, really, really good. I thought it was great. And I can't wait to watch Defenders this year.
We'll talk about that probably in 2017. Look, but I do prefer season one. Rod, you haven't really commented much. What were your thoughts?
Well, I prefer season one to season two also. And it was basically for the last act in season two because there was a lot of very cool buildup that they did with, yeah, thanks. Oh, no, no, it's cool. There was a lot of very cool buildup.
And one of the coolest scenes was this bottomless pit in this building that had some purpose, that we don't know what it was. I thought they were trying to fill in the whole damn thing with blood, which would take a lot of people. But they never answered that question in the last act. Because they found this giant pit.
God, what is this for? There's a flood of ninjas. There's some cocoon for a cement mixer. We don't know what the hell is that for?
They never really answered that. We assumed that a Lekra was put into it to become, yeah. Well, it's kind of a run to me of Shadowland. She's going to become the leader of the hand, the evil leader of the ninjas.
But I don't think they ever really sufficiently answered the question about the cocoon or cement or whatever you want to go, the cement cocoon. They never answered the story about the pit. And so I was left in the last act. There were these components that I thought were crucial to the overall story, stuff that they, these promises that were made, like here's this really cool shit.
And you're going to find out what it's for, and you never find out. So in the last act, I love the series. And I still think, like you Danny, I think it's a great series. But for me, it falls short of season one, because at the end, what I was left with at the end of the last act was some unanswered questions.
And without them saying that there's going to be a Daredevil 3, he was like, well, I'm just never going to find out. They have announced that the last act is defenders. That's what I had always assumed. I think that I took a little more solace when that ended up.
And defenders is about to be tight, because it's going to be independent. It's going to be independent. It seems like Daredevil's whole plot line is the core of the defenders when it comes about. It's a huge thing to be believing.
He's going to be, his whole deal is more important than anyone else's deal currently going on. But the thing is, we didn't know that until three months ago. Are they announced it? So I can see how many of you want to approach it.
What? And there's no announcement of season three, what's going on here? I think it's because when I'm giving a gift, and it's in a nice package, the whole thing, I look at it, I'm like, that's complete. That's season one.
The batteries are included. Yeah, and the batteries are included. And then you see, give me a gift, and I open up like, battery's not included. Some assembly acquired, which is one step away.
There was a community. It's like, some assembly required. I had to build a swing set for my kids. Someone's selling acquired is one step away of mining the ore from the ground itself.
So build this thing. So that, I mean, I agree with you there. I just felt lacking at the end. And it relied too much on Gore.
It had great moments, you know? Like that Penny and Diamond, he's like Penny and Diamond. He's like, great stuff, good things to progress the story, progress the character. But at the end, it was the end of Scott Snyder's route of like, he creates amazing stories.
But he has to finish it in one season. Oh, one issue. And sometimes you're like, oh, like that was amazing. Great, but he had to finish it really quick.
That was my only thing with Scott. That was my only thing with Daredevil season two. Still an amazing series. Probably the best.
I still think Daredevil season one is up there with Winter Soldier. Civil, it's great. It's amazing. It was complete to me.
So Daredevil was great. Now, what are your all thoughts on, I think this is a negative for everyone, even Colton, Colton, not Shoff, going through halfway, I think since it's six. I stopped on episode four of Luke Cage. I just couldn't, I couldn't grasp the characters.
Luke Cage himself was kind of lacking in relatability to me. And even, okay, even though I can't relate to the character's position, I can empathize. There's a different thing to sympathy and empathy. I can relate to that.
I can imagine what it'd be like to be like that. I couldn't even do that. Because I don't think the storytelling was as good as Jessica Jones, which was amazing. Jay, I know you love it.
And you and your wife sat down and watched Jessica Jones, correct? Yeah. Sorry, I got you all right. No, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, you know what I'm like, you're sure.
I'm like, there's something about like the formality of that. So you really did it, correct. Yes. I'm going to.
Yeah, we super, we're digging it. Like the fact that, you know, I don't know, I think they really created a compelling villain. The casting was on point. I mean, it was a great show all around.
It kind of hooked you every episode. Yes, yeah. Yeah. But then they resolved it at episode eight or nine or ten.
And you're like, cool, what's that happened? Yeah. And then it gets out and then they have to stop and again, I was just like, you had a fucking great package there. Ten episodes.
You should have just stopped and said fuck that 13 episode idea. Yeah. It's really fucking good here. Let's stop.
And then they were like, but we got to have a mistake because we got to get the 13 episodes and it was just like, okay, so then you're going to redo episodes seven through ten again. Like, damn it dude. I can see that. I mean, overall, Jessica Jones was was hitting me on the head and I was like, oh, I'm sorry.
I mean, I'm sorry. You didn't get as far. I felt totally going in that direction where they were like, okay, we're cooking, we're cruising and then also, and then let's kill the main bad guy on episode six. And we'll start fresh.
Dang, dude. I got to have some floor. I also made it to make it a six, but that's okay. I don't know.
So it's my best. It was just like, and then start a new meet this new bad guy. And I was like, are you sheening me? Do all this all over again?
Yeah. And then I was like, I was getting really invested with that guy. I was like, okay, cool. He finally got really dope back.
I was like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, how he was really creative and why he's this guy and then you're like, oh, he's not even. Like I let out from house of cards. He's not in the same way. Well, I think it's sufficient to say that because four fifths of this table didn't finish it or didn't get past that.
So sick. Yeah, I didn't know that was. I was just spoiling for everybody. Oh, no.
No, that's fine. I'm spoiling the way because I'll never get back to it. Yeah, I need to know what happens before. I mean, I left off at six and I mean, that was tough.
I mean, there were a couple of good episodes in there, but I just couldn't do it. Oh, yeah. Looks like Luke and Jessica Jones, I perfectly cast and this one. Man, it was it was tough.
It was a slog just to get as far as it did. So his Lou Cage persona, and we talked about this in the previous episode a long time ago about casting for Don Stewart, the Brother Green and now that he's all really, like, he's responsible for that role and stuff like that. But when I sold Luke Cage, the, what did his aura, how he, how he presented himself, he was so John Stewart, I looked at my dang John Stewart just because of the way he carries himself. But he was, and Jessica Jones, I wanted to see more.
I was looking forward to Luke Cage so much. And I'm probably going to finish it still, thanks, Caleb. But I'm still, I'm probably going to finish it. Just poor defenders.
But it just lacked. It's just like, dead of one delivered. Dead of two delivered. Jessica Jones delivered.
I'm really excited for Iron Fist. We'll get that in a little bit. But Luke Cage, I'm not going to give it below a five. I think that Luke Cage was monumental for just a filmmaking premise.
I don't know when the fuck I saw, why God? It was a few episodes. And I was like, holy shit, good for you. This is incredible.
Your male lead is African-American. Your female lead is African-American. I don't know what she is, but then Rosario. Her name is, her, she was cop, right?
