Episode 6 | The Night Ferry to Oslo | Sleep Story
from Sleepy Pod Journey · host Sleepy Pod
Drift above a ferry crossing the Oslo Fjord on a cold autumn night. Diesel engines throb below the waterline as the pod keeps pace with the vessel, close enough to feel each pulse of the machinery through the dark air. Shore lights from coastal villages scatter across both sides of the fjord, their amber reflections trembling in broken lines on the black water below. As the journey deepens, the lights thin and disappear. Cliffs rise invisibly on either side, their mass felt rather than seen. A lighthouse beam sweeps its slow rotation at long intervals, and a foghorn sounds across the water - low, unhurried, arriving from somewhere far behind. The Oslofjord stretches 120 kilometres from the open Skagerrak to the Norwegian capital, a waterway carved not by glaciers but by the rifting of the earth itself, nearly 300 million years ago. Viking longships once navigated these same dark channels. Tonight, the ferry carries its own small cargo of light and warmth through the same corridor of stone and sea. Eventually, the faintest amber glow appears on the horizon ahead - the accumulated warmth of a city preparing to receive this one last vessel home. Let the engine's steady pulse and the cold fjord air carry you toward rest. For extended episodes with brown noise layers and no interruptions, visit our Patreon at patreon.com/sleepyjourneypod.
