Episode 60: Emergency Canó and Díaz Trade-A-Palooza

from Meet at the Mitt: A Seattle Mariners podcast · host Meet at the Mitt

John Trupin and Kate Preusser convene to discuss the many major deals going down in Mariners land. Of note, the rumored deal of Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz to the New york Mets for OF Jarred Kelenic, RHP Justin Dunn, and RHP Gerson Bautista leads to hand-wringing over other people's checkbooks and prospect envy.   0:00 - 10:00: Kate and John outline the major news of the moment and compare Jerry Dipoto and Brodie Van Wagenen to a pair of Raki drinking competitors. How did we get here? Who is being traded? Why is this weird trade not going to change but somehow still has yet to happened? 10:00 - 49:00: We get into the implications of the deal, and go deep with the prospects returned in the proposed deal with the Mets. Kate chastises John for pronouncing Kelenic similarly to "colonic", John shoots back by insisting Waukesha cannot be pronounced "Wah-keesha" a la Keisha Phillips. Where do prospects like this put Seattle's system, and what does this mean exactly for 2019's roster? (It's gonna be rough, y'all) 49:00 - Finish: Questions! We do address the Colomé-Narváez deal, look into whether Seattle moves Jean Segura, Kyle Seager, Mitch Haniger, and the other remaining noteworthy players on the M's roster. John embarrassingly refers to Maikel Franco as the Braves' 3B and not the Phillies (the Braves now have Josh Donaldson in addition to Johan Camargo)! Kate searches for non-sexual/scatalogical terminology for strong forearms, we hint at the good and bad of rebuilds, and the comparisons between the Mariners of 2019 and the Marlins of 2018. Yikes.
