Episode 60 | Friendship with God by Mike McKinley

The video reviews the book "Friendship with God: A Path to Deeper Fellowship with the Father, Son, and Spirit" by Mike McKinley. The author, Mike McKinley, modernized the writings of the 17th-century Puritan theologian John Owen. Owen was a prolific and scholarly writer, but his work is considered wordy and difficult for modern readers to follow. The reviewer finds the book to be a helpful and practical introduction to Owen's ideas. The book is broken into three main parts, discussing communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.Communion with the Father: The medium of this friendship is love, which is demonstrated through obedience to God.Communion with the Son: This is explored through the medium of grace, and involves contemplating the greatness of Christ. The book contains an excellent chapter on spiritual adoption.Communion with the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is described as a "paraclete" or helper, who provides comfort, hope, peace, and joy.The video concludes by stating that while we are saved by grace, we have a part to play in our sanctification and growth in our friendship with God. The book is recommended for those who want a taste of Owen's writings without reading his original, more verbose works.__Southern View Chapel is an independent Bible church in Springfield, IL, committed to handling the Scriptures accurately through the exegetical teaching of God's Word.
