Episode 604: Love and Torah | Part 23

from Messianic Torah Observant Israel · host Steve Berkson

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.Beginning this teaching in John 15:5, Rabbi Steve Berkson explains what Messiah Yeshua meant when He was exhorting His disciples to “stay in Me and He in them”, and how that statement could also be said as, “if you are in covenant with Me.” Without the Spirit of Messiah (His intrinsic nature) in us it is impossible to be in covenant with Him and His Father.• What is Covenantal Fruit?Moving on from there Rabbi Berkson expounds on something crucial to our having a correct mindset when dealing with those around us and it centers around the phrase “he is broken off and thrown away.” This moves him into passages in Matthew chapter 13 and Romans 11 which were not in his notes.• What is the job for the Kingdom that is above all of our ‘pay grades’?• Is your being considered a “darnel” or a “tare” predestined?• Do you have a preconception of what leadership should look like or sound like? What’s the danger in that?Rabbi Berkson does a “reset” of a ‘faith idea’ that most of us have been taught throughout our lives, namely the idea of “ask whatever you wish and it shall be done for you.” What is the awful word that precedes Messiah’s statement about ‘asking’?Toward the end of the teaching, what started as a side note became an illustrious life-coaching moment as Rabbi Berkson was speaking about be unequally yoked and then turned his focus to those who are single and looking for a mate. A must-watch!Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Instead, we call for a Messianic Jewish Revolution that starts from the template of Judaism – complete with its collective wisdom, tradition, scholarship, lifecycles, and rabbinic pedigree – accepting Yeshua as the Messiah and the legitimacy of the New Covenant writings sans the filter of Christian dogma. We will tackle wide-ranging contemporary topics through uncompromising honesty and humor, serving up a crass, unorthodox style in service of an Orthodox Messianic Judaism. You can find us at https://www.mjnext.fm.We welcome and encourage your feedback. His works are studied in-depth in all yeshivot today and he is widely considered the father of modern Talmudic analysis. The only work he wrote was his chiddushim (insights) on the Rambam's halachic rulings, which is considered a classic of Talmudic analysis. But the complexity of the material and the analysis make it difficult for many to study. These audio presentations of his writings by Rabbi Elisha Friedman are intended to help make his Torah insights more accessible.
