Episode 61: Homeopathic Learning Journey with Jagoda Salewska

Where can studying homeopathy take you when you stay curious and keep learning? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith welcomes back Jagoda Salewska to talk about a homeopathy journey that has taken her from pharmacy and hospital work in London to online practice, international travel and further study in Bali. Jagoda shares how her background as a pharmacist influenced her decision to study homeopathy and why continuing to learn from different teachers, cultures and approaches has become such an important part of her practice. From Pharmacy to Homeopathy Jagoda's first degree was in pharmacy. She worked in community pharmacy and later moved into hospital pharmacy because she wanted a more clinical role and greater involvement with patients. Over time, however, she became interested in exploring complementary approaches to health. A home prescribing book sparked her curiosity about homeopathy, and after reading it while travelling in Spain, she decided to find a college and begin formal training. Learning Through Practical Experience Jagoda quickly realised that she learns best by doing. Only a couple of days into homeopathy college, she began looking for opportunities to gain practical experience and applied to homeopathic pharmacies in London. Her pharmacy background helped her secure a role, giving her the opportunity to study homeopathy while also being surrounded by remedies, practitioners and customers asking questions. Working During the Pandemic Jagoda later returned to work at a homeopathic pharmacy during the pandemic. She describes it as an intense period with a large increase in questions and demand for information. Some homeopathic approaches discussed during this period, including nosodes and prophylactic preparations, have not been established as methods for preventing COVID 19 or other infectious diseases and should not replace vaccination, testing or appropriate medical care. Taking Homeopathy Around the World After completing her training, Jagoda travelled through Asia and began thinking about how she wanted to build her own practice. She first visited Bali in 2019, where she observed consultations with a local practitioner. Later, online work through Homeopathy247 gave her the flexibility to continue working with international clients while travelling. Eventually, she returned to Bali to gain the face to face clinical experience she had been missing. Exploring Transformational Alchemy Jagoda is currently studying an approach called Transformational Alchemy. She describes it as bringing together homeopathy with spagyric herbal preparations, kinesiology and a form of sidereal astrology. She also discusses the use of Fibonacci numbers within certain potency systems. These approaches are part of the complementary and spiritual framework she is currently studying. Kinesiology and astrology are not scientifically validated diagnostic methods, and Fibonacci based homeopathic potencies have not been established as medical treatments. Learning From Different Cultures One of the things Jagoda appreciates about being in Bali is the strong tradition of using plants and natural remedies. She describes knowledge being passed through families and communities and says this has helped broaden her understanding of how different cultures approach health. For Jagoda, travelling has become another form of homeopathy education. Online and Face to Face Practice Jagoda now enjoys having both sides of practice. She can see people locally in Bali while continuing to work online with international clients. Those two settings expose her to very different health concerns and give her opportunities to continue developing her case taking and prescribing skills. Dental Health and Cell Salts Jagoda also discusses her work within online communities focused on dental health. She talks about cell salts, individualized prescribing and longer term homeopathic support. Homeopathy and cell salts have not been established as treatments that reverse tooth decay or restore damaged enamel. Cavities, pain, infection and other significant dental problems require appropriate dental assessment and treatment. Learning About Recurrent Infections Another community Jagoda works with focuses on infections, including recurrent sore throats. She discusses the learning that comes from researching cases and sharing experiences with other practitioners. Suspected or confirmed strep throat requires appropriate medical assessment. Antibiotics may be necessary for group A streptococcal infection, and homeopathy should not be used as a substitute when antibiotic treatment is indicated. A Learning Journey That Never Stops Perhaps the biggest theme of Jagoda's story is that qualifying as a homeopath was not the end of her education. Her learning has continued through pharmacy work, clinical observation, travelling, international clients, new teachers and different complementary approaches.
