Episode 61 with Dr Robin Galley

from Taking Charge of My Cancer · host Derly Munoz

Dr. Robin Galley is the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) and Associate Professor for the NSU-Tampa DPT Program. In this role, she is responsible for securing placements for the students to complete their full-time clinical experiences across Florida and the country. Dr. Galley facilitates the entire placement process including the follow-up and in-person site visits once placed. She serves as a direct line of communication to the program during the clinical experiences and offers assistance and guidance where needed to ensure successful clinical experiences. Dr. Galley also serves as a lab assistant and guest lecturer within multiple courses including the musculoskeletal series, clinical skills, integumentary, and exercise physiology. Dr. Galley is a Board-certified Orthopaedic Specialist and Certified Oncology Rehabilitation Expert. She is also a Certified Lymphedema and Woundcare Therapist and shares her expertise with students in the program. She serves as one of the Clinical Mentors in the Orthopaedic Residency program and is a Faculty Supervisor for students at the pro bono clinic through Shark Motion. Prior to entering Academia in 2012, Dr. Galley worked full-time in private practice outpatient orthopaedic settings and completed part-time work in multiple settings including acute care and oncology rehab, where she continues to work at Moffitt Cancer Center today. Dr. Galley enjoys her time with the students and is happy to be able to continue her work as a clinician in the field of Oncology where she feels she can truly have an impact with a patient population she holds dear to her heart. Finally, Dr. Galley is a breast cancer thriver. Diagnosed with Stage 2b breast cancer in 2016 at age 38, she has firsthand experience as to what it’s like on the other side of the treatment table. During her battle with breast cancer, Dr Galley endured 6 rounds of chemotherapy, 18 rounds of immunotherapy, a double mastectomy, 30 rounds of radiation, reconstruction, and revision. She learned firsthand what it means to be your own advocate and the importance of physical activity through cancer treatment. Today, she is cancer-free and appreciative of her journey. She is motivated to encourage others who have to hear the words, “You have cancer,” so that they, too, can thrive.
