Episode 62 - SOS Save Our Stations (PART 2)

from The Garbage POD

Welcome to this two part Special Edition of The Garbage POD. Something is happening that is ripping the heart out of communitiesacross the UK, as we speak. Bauer Media have acquired 56 "Local" radio stations and is going to re-brand them as part of their Greatest Hits Radio "National" radio station. This means the identity of these stations will cease to exist by the end of the year. This also means job losses across the country, loss of local programming, No connection with local presenters and Local Charities, Business and events left without a voice. Ofcom (the regulating body for the broadcasting industry) has failed to inform the public of the takeover. Leaving no chance of any resistance to the changes, until it was too late. Campaigns have been set up across the country but because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, they have not been able to gain momentum and make an impact. In Part 2 of the Podcast we focus on the Community aspect of Local Radio. Where we talk to local events organisers, Bands, Business's and people who have been involved with fundraising for charities and will be affected by the loss of local radio.
