Episode 63: Mental Health… The Invisible Injury

from Physician, Heal Thyself The Podcast · host Dr. Ana Lara

Learn about what School of Purpose is, who it is for and why to be part of it. Pastor Judy Salinas shares more on this ministry school. Healing is an “undoing” of what you thought was right and normal, and God makes room for the new to come in; making space for God in our hearts. We have to reach a place of courage and humility to get help. Dr. Lara shares her experience when she suffered from a concussion after a motor vehicle accident. She shares why it is important that she can be herself with all, including her patients. When you are struggling you need to be able to put your walls down and say “I need help.” Don’t become numb to traumatic experiences, and be in survival mode and make it the new norm if you don’t process it. Have someone to talk to. It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable and on the other side there is a breakthrough. Find a safe space and safe people. Setting healthy boundaries when you are in an industry where you serve people. Making your health and wellness a priority. The Lord does not call us to say yes to everyone and everything. Sometimes the most Holy response is to say “No” 1. Make time for yourself – put yourself to the calendar for selfcare. Working out, walking, praying, whatever is important for you at the time.2. Communicate your needs with your family and others.3. Put yourself on your “To do list”4. Fill your own cup before pouring into others5. Eat more protein to provide energy, manage blood sugars, and it helps with cravings.6. Find at least one trustworthy person, and ideally someone who can help guide you.7. Take it to God. God doesn’t condemn you when you are trying to heal.Like, share this episode and make sure to subscribe to the channel for future episodes.School of Purpose: School of Purpose was founded by Pastors Joey and Judy Salinas.
