Episode #63: “The public seems to forget doctors are human!” with Pamela Aloia & Ransom Oynema

Ransom Oynema is a fourth-year medical student in Nigeria with a special interest in Radiology. She feels there’s a writer waiting to bloom in everyone! Our engaging conversation centers around doctors, and healing through writing. Pamela shares, “The human spirit that comes forward when we tell our story…not only do we heal from writing our story, we inspire other people by writing it!” She says the more we can support doctors in sharing their stories and perspectives, the more we can purport the necessary systemic changes. She adds that doctors’ hands are tied in many instances; insurance hurdles are there. We tend to blame the person that’s right in front of us instead of trying to get behind the system and find out how we can change it! Ransom shares what has helped him overcome challenges: he doesn’t let his environment weigh him down, his family has been the backbone in helping him thrive, he credits his mentors, and his passion for radiography, for writing, and for “creating amazing content for people to learn more!” Pamela talks about the effects work stress had on her personally and how “We can live differently. It is up to us to make those changes…not only for ourselves, but impact other folks to incorporate change.”Ransom offers solid suggestions for promoting yourself on LinkedIn or elsewhere. He says not to focus on “followers,” but in a nutshell, consistency. “Keep showing up strategically; there’s no way you’re going to lose! Focus on the content you’re putting out, on improving yourself, and continuous learning. Know what you want, and network with a lot of people!”
