Shahd Alshammari is a Kuwaiti-Palestinian author and academic. She is the author of Notes on the Flesh (Faraxa Press, 2017) and Head Above Water (Neem Tree Press, 2022), and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of only 18.Despite her doctors preparing her for a tragic life and early death, she threw herself into education - not because she wanted to achieve anything in particular, but simply for the love of learning. In this episode, we talk about how Shahd's experiences with MS have taught her what is important, and how this is an advantage that chronically ill people have over others, particularly in light of the COVID pandemic.
