Episode 65: The DJPJ Experience

from Artbeat Radio · host Artbeat Radio

Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! Today, we have a special solo episode which was written and produced by DJ PJ from CECA. PJ wrote two original songs for this episode in addition to conducting an interview with students from EPI Center. With the help of his peers, he decided on five fun questions to ask a group of students. Then he chose the group to ask these questions to, which ended up being the "Choose Your Dance" class at EPI Center. For PJ's two original songs, both were created with Garageband loops with added vocal narration. 6:53 "CECA to EPI" PJ wrote this song about a hot summer day in the past that he and other students went on a Journey to EPI without the bus. While creating this song he discussed that it was "a long walk that he didn't think he could make, but he made it!" He talked about overcoming this hot day that had obstacles, such as cars driving close to them, a speed bump that a peer went over but PJ went around, and how at one point his wheelchair foot harness scraped the ground and he thought he was going to tip over. But he didn't and said, "I'm alright!" A few things he mentioned about this song were that "The sun was blasting on me, I was ready to take a journey, and I was rollin', rollin' down the street." Yeah, I’ll just tell you a little story I was rolling down the street Yeah The sun was blasting We had to go to EPI and I was like, “alright!” It was hot! I didn’t think it was going to be like this! What’d I get myself into? I was scared and everything cause I was looking for Jesus Jesus was like “dooowah!” (explaining the way Jesus’s wheelchair went with a hand gesture) Oh Yeah! I played some songs I made the journey! 7:54 "I Put My Head Down" This song is about PJ's experience and feelings of being asked to DJ for Maria G's art show. He explained "at first I was shocked, my heart jumped. And then I was like--sure!" He said that he DJ'd for hours at this event. PJ also mentioned that being asked to DJ the event "threw me for a loop and I was nervous about it, first I put my head down and then I was like 'ok!' " Maria asked me to DJ her show I was nervous, I was like (raised his eye brows) It threw me for a loop! Maria’s Show – Maria’s Show It threw me for a loop Maria’s show – Maria’s show It threw me for a loop I put my head down because, I never put my head down and I was like “no…” Maria’s Show It threw me for a loop Maria’s Show I put my head down and I was like “ok!” I met Helen up there, I met everybody up there! So… Maria’s Show I put my head down and I was like “ok, yeah! Thanks for listening and tune in next time! For more information about our organization, please visit our website www.ableartswork.org
