Episode 67: Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) Injuries in Dance
from The Dance Physio Podcast · host Erika Mayall
The Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) muscle is a common site of injury in dance - although rare in other sporting/athletic populations. It is a an important stabilizer of the 1st ray during toe off and when on demi-pointe, making it susceptible to injury in dancers. In this episode, I talk about the anatomy and function of the FHL, and discuss why it is often misdiagnosed by healthcare professionals who aren't experienced in working with dancers. I also discuss the common presentation of FHL injuries, as well as treatment options for dancers with FHL pathology.Other podcast episodes mentioned:Episode 24: Posterior Ankle ImpingementEpisode 50: Tendonitis in DancersLearn more about Erika Mayall:Follow me on Instagram: @dancephysioerikaLearn more about me on my website: https://www.allegroperformance.comSign up for my newsletter: Click hereSend me an email: [email protected] the show
