Episode #67: “People have a lot more power than they think!” Dr. Shideh Shafie & Amber Pena Posey
Dr. Shideh Shafie is an Emergency Medicine Physician and a performance coach for executives and leaders. Amber Pena Posey is a psychiatric nurse practitioner by training, empowering rebels with a cause! Shideh and Amber share their stories that led them to feeling empowered, and in turn how they are using their knowledge to empower others. Shideh speaks to the period when she told herself, “I’m just going to work through this by working,” not by working through the trauma of her experiences, "everything felt unfair...everything is happening TO me, I have no power.” Fast forward to receiving coaching…her coach, “Blew up my mind!” Shideh shares some powerful mind shifts he taught her, and how she then came to support her colleagues during the pandemic, realizing “People really need this, these people need me!” Amber says, “When the rubber meets the road you have to start feeling how you are disempowered in a healthcare profession…Even people who are thriving, there still tends to be a fallback into victimhood.” Amber and Shideh speak to “regenerative power” and what that means. They talk about physical exhaustion vs. mental exhaustion, with Amber coining the term, “wired but tired!” We also discuss intuition. Parting words include, “You are in charge of creating the life that you want to live. It’s totally normal to feel exhausted and tired. There is a solution to that. There’s nothing wrong with seeking help, and it’s good to spend some time building a strategy for your life!”
