He was a new seaman (E3) on board his first ship, USS Cole, during the sneak attack by Al Qaeda terrorists on October 12, 2000. The events of that day left him with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); but his diagnosis did not prevent him from leading a successful career in the Navy – including promoting to Master Chief. We talk about his experience with PTSD in the Navy as well as the future of Mental Health in our Navy today, some of the programs, as well as what you can do as leaders to help the future of our Navy.
